ToggleThe ATM-EXCITE consortium recently traveled to Lake Bled, Slovenia, for the SESAR Innovation Days (SIDs) 2025. Hosted by Pipistrel and the University of Ljubljana from December 1–4, this gathering was a pivotal moment for our project.
What are the SESAR Innovation Days?
The SESAR Innovation Days (SIDs) are the flagship event for Europe’s Air Traffic Management (ATM) research community. Unlike standard industry expos, SIDs focus specifically on exploratory research. They serve as the main vehicle for the SESAR Joint Undertaking to share scientific progress and identify long-term trends.
Now in its 15th edition, the event bridges the gap between academic theory and operational reality. It brings together universities, research centers, and industry leaders to showcase cutting-edge concepts. For a project like ATM-EXCITE, it is the ultimate testing ground for our ideas.
Aligning with Europe’s ATM Priorities
This year’s discussions highlighted the urgent need for modernization. Key sessions focused on the Service Delivery Model and Human-Machine Teaming. These themes validate the work we are doing in ATM-EXCITE.
Our participation confirmed that interoperability is not just a technical requirement. Instead, it is the foundation of the future European sky. Consequently, we must ensure our civil-military coordination efforts align seamlessly with these broader European frameworks.
M12 Milestone: Defining Our Roadmap
The event also provided the perfect backdrop for our M12 Consortium Meeting. During this session, we successfully closed our first reporting period.
Crucially, we signed the agreement on the integration architecture for our project. We now have a clear roadmap for connecting our various solutions. This ensures we can effectively address critical challenges, such as data confidentiality and spoofing prevention, without compromising operational efficiency.
