ToggleThe ATM-EXCITE project has officially launched! This Horizon Europe initiative dedicated to advancing civil-military aviation cybersecurity in European airspace. The project kicked off on October 1–2 in Madrid and is supported by the SESAR Joint Undertaking.
Why civil-military aviation cybersecurity matters
Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems are increasingly vulnerable to digital threats, especially in joint civil-military operations. ATM-EXCITE addresses key priorities:
Secure military aviation data exchange
Enhance interoperability between civil and military ATM systems
Increase resilience against cyberattacks targeting airborne position data
These goals are in direct alignment with the European ATM Master Plan, contributing to a safer, more integrated European sky.
Consortium of leaders in aviation security
ATM-EXCITE brings together top institutions across Europe—EURO-FUNDING, INFODAS, INCAS, STAM, UPVISION, and TUKE—to co-develop scalable, secure, and interoperable solutions for tomorrow’s ATM.
The project will use advanced encryption, selective data anonymisation, and new surveillance architecture to ensure operational security across joint domains.
