ToggleCivil-military coordination in European air traffic management is becoming increasingly critical to ensure secure, efficient, and interoperable skies. At Airspace World 2025 in Lisbon, ATM-EXCITE presented its groundbreaking cybersecurity and digital airspace solutions designed to enhance collaboration between civil and military aviation stakeholders.
Airspace World 2025: driving innovation in European air traffic management
Between May 13 and 15, 2025, Lisbon hosted Airspace World — a major event that brought together aviation industry leaders, policymakers, and defence experts to discuss the future of European air traffic management and civil-military coordination.
ATM-EXCITE’s participation in the SESAR Joint Undertaking Civil-Military Walking Tour demonstrated our commitment to advancing secure, interoperable, and digital airspace management aligned with the European ATM Master Plan.
ATM-EXCITE’s key solutions enhancing civil-military coordination
ATM-EXCITE, an EU-funded Horizon SESAR project, develops five core technological innovations to strengthen civil-military coordination and cybersecurity in European air traffic management:
ADVERMA: Advanced ADS-B Data Verification System
ADVERMA detects false or spoofed military ADS-B reports, improving situational awareness and preventing cyber-attacks on military aviation data.
SEALD: Selective Encryption of ADS-B Data
SEALD encrypts sensitive segments of ADS-B data, safeguarding confidential military information while preserving operational transparency needed for civil-military cooperation.
ANYSKY: Digital Trust via One-Time Pad Encryption
ANYSKY enhances data confidentiality with onboard masking and GNSS-based key generation, ensuring secure end-to-end encryption of military flight data.
DACSEC ADS-B: Zero Trust Architecture for Surveillance Data
DACSEC ADS-B applies Zero Trust security principles and cross-domain solutions to maintain confidentiality and integrity of military surveillance data in shared airspace.
SIMCOM: Cyber-Attack Simulation for ATM Resilience
SIMCOM simulates cyber threats like spoofing and jamming against ATM systems, supporting improved cyber resilience for civil-military airspace coordination.
Driving digitalisation and cybersecurity in European airspace management
By applying NATO Architecture Framework 4.0 (NAF 4.0), ATM-EXCITE ensures standardized modelling and interoperability of civil and military ATM systems. These solutions tackle vulnerabilities in real-time airborne position data — a key priority in the European ATM Master Plan — fostering a safer and smarter European sky.
Collaborating for a secure and efficient European airspace
The electric atmosphere at Airspace World 2025 showcased the urgent need for innovation in air traffic management. ATM-EXCITE proudly contributes to this ecosystem, advancing civil-military coordination and cybersecurity alongside leading stakeholders.
Our next steps include pilot implementations, stakeholder engagement, and integrated system development, driving the evolution of European air traffic management toward full digitalisation and enhanced security.
